A New Perspective on the World We Inherit. 

Most people hope to inherit wealth or an estate. However, what our generation actually inherits is a degraded environment and an ecological crisis trapping us in a relentless struggle for survival. Forcing compliance is too shallow; we must look deeper at the systemic roots. 

SDGs were established in 2015. A decade later, sustainability is still treated as a goal to chase rather than a mirror of our underlying systems. Picture the illusion: a person declining a plastic straw while miles away, industrial facilities churn out tons of single-use plastics every hour. Individual gestures are mathematically erased by a system designed to overproduce. When survival relies on a machine of continuous extraction, asking people to fix the wreckage with lifestyle adjustments is like bailing a sinking ship with a paper cup. 

Moving toward true sustainability demands a fundamental paradigm shift. As reflected through environmental advocates like Alex Rendell, true sustainability is never about seasonal PR campaigns or ticking compliance boxes; it requires deep ecological awareness. Organizations must embrace ecosystem thinking—recognizing that commerce and nature are interdependent threads. Balancing business survival with planetary healing is the ultimate prerequisite for long-term resilience. 

For corporate strategists, this requires embedding sustainability directly into core business DNA rather than treating it as an auxiliary cost center. Ultimately, just as masks once felt like a heavy burden before weaving into our New Normal, sustainability must stop being viewed as a green chore.
